Technology-Enriched Learning

laptop learning

ITS strives to provide the highest quality computing hardware, software and support to students participating in Technology-Enriched Learning at UOIT.  To support these needs, the program includes the following components:

Continuous curriculum renewal
Each UOIT degree program is subject to curriculum renewal to ensure that networked student laptops are an integral part of classroom sessions. During class, professors use active links to related course materials, support individual and group communication, and foster dynamic presentations.

Students use laptops for online tests and exams, research capabilities, collaborative project development, activity based drills, program-specific software applications and many common publishing, spreadsheet and database resources and applications. An online learning management system and portal services will be an integral part of Technology-Enriched Learning.

Fully-networked classrooms
UOIT students benefit from networked classrooms and learning spaces. Each ergonomically-designed space has data network connection access and electrical connections to ensure battery regeneration. In addition, classrooms include electronic projection equipment and full multimedia support.

IT Service Desk support
The IT Service Desk provides certified technicians and experienced IT professionals offering hardware support for the following services on a drop-in or call-in basis for the 2011-2012 academic year:

  • Accessing MyCampus;
  • Configuration assistance;
  • General maintenance and repairs;
  • Laptop distribution and returns;
  • Login and network services assistance;
  • Printing services;
  • Software and hardware problem resolution.

Laptop loaner services
For the 2011-12 academic year, students with laptops that require extensive maintenance will be loaned a laptop until their unit is repaired (subject to availability).

Technology-Enriched Learning network infrastructure

To ensure the success of the technology-enriched learning environment, a comprehensive data network has been installed on campus. This includes a network drop for on-campus laptops in and out of the classroom as well as network drops for each residence suite to enable work groups to collaborate from anywhere on campus.

Printing services
Printing services are available to students in most of the following areas: labs, classrooms, study common areas, the Learning Commons (SW100) and the Library. The cost of printing is covered by the Student IT Plan up to a 1,000 pages per year. Should students require additional printing services, PrintPacks can be purchased through the Campus Bookstore.

Services for students with disabilities
UOIT strives to provide a barrier-free learning environment. If you require the use of adaptive software or equipment due to a disability, contact the Centre For Students with Disabilities (email: disabilities@uoit.ca) before the start of the academic year and schedule an appointment to discuss your needs.

Student portal to campus services

MyCampus
 is the web portal dedicated to deliver campus digital services. This is your entry into email, news, services and resources while on campus and is accessible from anywhere on the Internet.
