  • Incoming and returning students in FBIT (excluding Game Development) will bring their own device in the 2018-19 academic year. 
  • Please review the Laptop Standards tab in this section for recommended minimum hardware specifications. These specifications are required for UOIT software to run successfully and without any interruptions on your device.

SOFTWARE FOR UNDERGRADUATES AND FACULTY MEMBERS

The list below represents software provided to undergraduate and faculty members for use in academic programs for the Faculty of Business & Information Technology (excluding Game Development).  Please note that students:

  • the specific software applications that are provided to each student and faculty member are dependent on course or academic program requirements.
  • students or faculty members may be required to use additional UOIT licensed software applications or services that are not listed in the software summary below.

  • Students in these programs MUST have a Windows PC.  Mac hardware running Windows OS is NOT an acceptable alternative.

SERVICES

SOFTWARE             Students will be provided with software that can be used on their personal device.
SOFTWARE SUPPORT Software support is available to all students participating in the BYOD TELE model.  Please visit the IT Service Desk locations for further instruction.
EXAM SUPPORT Technical support is provided during in-class examinations (upon faculty request) and emergency loaner laptops are available in the event of hardware or software failure.
HARDWARE (short term use only)

Laptop rentals - available for a nominal fee to accommodate BYOD TELE students who might need a rental for a limited time (subject to availability). View laptop rental information under the BYOD section of the Hardware page.

General Use Workstations - Access to course specific software for BYOD students is available on all UOIT desktops located in the North Library and on selected UOIT desktops in the Downtown Library (61 Charles St.).

TELE FEES (2018-19)

Faculty of Business and Information Technology students pay a mandatory fee which is directed to the cost of delivering the technology learning environment.  Any funds remaining at year end will be applied to the future costs of the program.  As part of the BYOD TELE model, FBIT students (excluding Game Development) will pay an annual technology-enriched learning fee of $146.67 in the 2018-19 academic year.
